The “Front Room” or "Big People Room" became a place in which the family's most treasured possessions were kept. It included the most advanced Hi-Fi system, the radio, , ornaments, and treasured photographs the "best" furniture, which was not to be used except on special occasions. Sunday rituals would revolve around the room, which was only entered when visitors came by. The room would be a place of admiration, its focal point the mantelpiece and a cabinet containing prized objects. Always locked children were not allowed in unless invited. The “Front Room” became a place of pride because it demonstrated in some way that our parents had ‘made it’ and it was also a safe place for them to their entertain guests, it was a place where relatives, family friends, Pastors would be treated like royalty a place for “Big People” and their conversations.
