Since his debut in 1947, Chief Wahoo has represented the Cleveland Indians. Although the image has long been controversial, recent team victories has brought the logo under closer scrutiny. But where does the image and name actually originate?

These protesters need to get a life. Chief Wahoo is a symbol, a caricature, a cartoon. It's not supposed to be realistic. It's goofy and whimsical, and designed to make people, including Native Americans, laugh in happiness, not as a derogatory gesture. It is also interesting that no evidence has ever been shown that a majority of the Indian population has a negative view of the Chief. I am certain of this because if a poll did show this, believe me, the protesters would use it! This whole thing should be a non issue. It figures that two people who lead the protest are being indited for embezzling government funds that were designated to go real Native Americans What a bunch of hypocrites!

Notre Dame isn't the "Leprechauns", it's the "Irish". It depicts an ethnic group in a cartoonish way. Explain the double standard.

Go to Cleveland Indians Facebook to see what the fans really think about this change.

2:24 “it’s the ONLY logo of an American sports team to depict a specific race”

this guy never heard of the Chicago Blackhawks or Washington Redskins?

Nice gaslighting.

The 1898 logo, name was "Rufus" created by the KKK founder. crazy how the Cleveland team adopted that logo in 1946

He says, "Notre Dame doesn't count because 'leprechaun' isn't a race." They are the "Fighting Irish, " not the fighting leprechauns! The ND logo also obviously plays up the stereotype that "most Irish are alcoholics" as well, so why is the Indian okay, but the drunk, fighting Irishman not okay?

Their used to be a Chief Wahoo McDaniel who was a professional wrestler. He always wore his Indian headdress to the ring, did the Indian war dance, and had a chop to the chest moved called the tomahawk. He was a real Indian too, playing the stereotype Indian. Does that make him a racist, making fun of his own people?

:10 - Veck is pronounced like Beck - not Veek:11 - that is not a picture of Walter Goldbach when he was 17Walter designed it as a cartoon similar to the inspiration of Disney’s Steamboat Willie - the owner wanted a light-hearted caricature as it was after the War.

The first mention of chief Wahoo can be found in Indians programs dating back to 1947.

What about the Celtics and Vikings? I find it amusing how black players wear the Celtics logo with the Irish man in it. The same with the black players on the Vikings. Isn't Notre Dame actually Catholic? I thought they are Irish themselves and take pride in being Irish Catholics.

Leprechaun may not be a race, however, isn't Notre Dame actually depicting that all people of Ireland are considered leprechauns? So if you find Chief Wahoo offensive than Notre Dame's Leprechaun should be also. SAVE THE CHIEF!
