I got the degree. Now im thinkin, i dont even want this shit, so i just decided ima work part time barista, live in a crappy little rent-out dorm, and spend the rest of my time gardening, crocheting, drawing, writing, creating music, working out... Never thought I'd find a video on this subject, I'm glad you touched on it. Because you're damn right on something.

There's a pitfall that starts in the young adulthood that completely drains you off your free time, and what I mean by that, college isn't the worst. You don't even get time to get bored for a second, which may sound cool at first but sucks in reality for one reason: you literally don't have time to daydream or think about the actually important shit. I also miss commuting to school these days, and I'm fucking 30 now. The sheer amount of ideas, both creative and philosophical about giving my life a direction, that I got from those moments of boredom was insane. I still live off of these, but there's just not much more of the new cool stuff being created in my head.

Now imagine how it's gonna look like for the kids that are growing up nowadays. They don't get the bus rides we were getting. They won't get time to think so much, they'll just find some instant entertainment on their phone screen and grow up shallow as fuck.

I'm assuming the worst years are still in front of you, so just be careful of this pitfall. You don't wanna just wake up one day feeling like day after day you're losing tiny bits and pieces of your personality and forget the insights you've accumulated over the years.

This is very true. I think is both our fault and the society we live in too, but mostly ours. We have access to a lot of data showing that if you allow yourself to connect with who you truly are, things end up falling into place. Yet, we still decide to follow the same path that has been making us feel bad and purposeless.

this video is fantastic. the pessimism (which is unfortunately realism) in the first half had me afraid, but the conclusion was satisfying. this is true. creativity isn't dead, we just don't let it thrive as much now to where it believe it no longer exists. brilliant!

I’ve been thinking through this idea lately of Expression vs Impression, being a ratio that needs to be in balance.

Going to college and studying 90% of the time is a case of non-stop impression, with no time for expression. Being a kid and having plenty of time and space leaves room for endless expression. This applies to media consumption too. Too much time spent into echochambers and focusing on cultural drama, leads to a buildup or over-impression, leading to feeling “overwhelmed”, and in desperate need of expressing all the rage that’s built up, like an overflowing cup.

It's a balance. It's good you have written songs and other things before. You can do both work and take time to be creative. You will be happier overall.

I swear this happens earlier and earlier every year, 10 years ago I could run about, draw and read almost all the time but today I’m being yelled at by 50 different people who hate themselves as much as I do so why do I have to listen to them. Sometimes I wish i could get up and remind everyone that we are alive and that we should enjoy every second of it but then everyone would laugh at me and call me corny when they secretly agree with it as well

I still question a lot of stuff. I still believe I'm the one controlling my life (and I'm kinda bad at it, but that's beside the point). My friends sometimes tell me that I'm childish, but never say it in a bad way, and I'm honestly proud of it. But I've never really been creative. I'm just not into creating stuff
