I was lucky enough to be Tom Bukovac’s guitar student for a few months in the burbs of Cleveland. He was in his early 20s and I was about 14 years old - so yeah, basically a lifetime ago. But he was one of those rare individuals that make an enduring impression.

I remember going guitar shopping once with my mom driving us around to various guitar stores. Tom would pick up a guitar and the store would just stop and gather around as if lured by the pied piper. He would enlightened me about music: “You know there are other good bands besides Guns N’ Roses. Listen to the Beatles or country, too.” He would talk about trying to stay awake at the wheel after playing bars and clubs all night when he was in high school. He was a positive role model at a time in my life when I was a confused and rebellious adolescent and someone I never forgot.

I was so happy to see how his extraordinary talent blossomed into an amazing career. Couldn’t have happened to a better guy.

I’d say the hidden lesson in this video is the deep respect and authentic admiration these guys have for each other.

Guthrie Trapp changed the way I play after 50 years...he's an incredible player, teaches/preaches the fundamental stuff only, and is a chill humble guy.

Tom Bukovak is worthy of a civilian medal of honor for making it not feel so desperate and hopeless during the lock down. Gave us all something to hang our hat on and you didn't nessessarily have to be a musician, his nuggets of experience and wisdom apply to many endeavors

When Guthrie said "Hillbilly Jazz" the first thing I thought of was the late great Danny Gatton. He had an album called Redneck Jazz. The whole album is basically Jazzy Bluegrass.

Bukovac’s generosity of comment is endearing. What a terrific guitar pal he must be. Two impressive artists.

All the guitar wizardry put aside. When Tom and Rick started talking about journaling for their children, it really hit me in the feels ❤ That was beautiful.
