i've read all the comments, what most people are missing is that the current method of applying veneer with yellow glue is that you must use clamps. this video proves that you do not need them. as the video demonstrates, you apply the iron, the veneer will lift but if you continue the process of dampening, ironing with pressure, the veneer will ultimately settle down. great and important video.

I tried exactly this once. When the water touched the veneer, it started warping. Then the heat made steam which cracked the veneer. A disaster.
I am happy it works for you though! Looks great.

Apply glue on both sides, wait for it... to be dry to the touch, THEN put your veneer on the board and iron.

Nice vid. I wait for the glue to dry to the touch on both pieces before I iron them on. It sticks right away when the heat is applied, plus it reduces the mess. I guess everybody has their own technique that they prefer.

Dear Lord I would hate to see your version of the hard way.

This is probably the most effective technique for veneer application. At first I was sceptical about the result. However, upon practical test I think it works really well. Thus, the technique is time saving, super easy, and above all almost perfect. Thumbs up dude for a really good effort like this. Many people like me will be benefitted from your video. Thanks...

Also being a golf club repair guy I have always used heat to break down glue to remove broken shafts etc. I'll stick with clamping or contact cement to veneer.

I see your using Titebond III.

You use heat to weaken the glue's strength in order to take a joint apart. You probably made the whole process, twice as long as it needed to be.

The ''easy'' way to do this would be, to have the veneer on the counter top, apply glue then use your (i assume) milled lumber and apply weight to the top of this. You could use this method, to complete all the boards you are veneering, in one shot.

Yeah, don't apply veneer like this.

There are so many things contradicting the generally accepted methods. I’m always open to new ideas and methods but I’m not comfortable to test this method... Anyway, kudos and respect to the efforts.

The glue grabs better if after a run with the iron you then take the heat out of the veneer bond using a wooden block like a veneer hammer to rub over the veneer. Too much heat destroys the glue.

There are old videos that go back 20 years on the correct way to apply a veneer.

I prefer veneer with this adhesive rather than contact cement, although the process is more difficult. But as a result, this type of glue does much better.

nice video. what kind of glue are you using (the white bottle, with black and yellow sticker)? also what's in the jar, that you apply with the green cloth? some kind of paint solvent? thanks a lot

So this is the method, taught in furniture classes. I wonder why people are saying otherwise.

I know nothing about applying veneer but I can tell there’s something wrong about his method. This easy way also seems to be the wrong way.
