"water cooker" is the best word. We dont have an electric kettle, but my husband has a stove top kettle. I just microwave water. We both love our soda stream though.

We use folding rulers in the electric industry. The metal measuring tapes are a nein-nein because they can short a circuit with spectacular molten metal spray that feels very spicy on the fleisch or can even start a nasty feuer.

These apply to all European Countries. I live in the US but I am originally from Sibiu / Hermannstadt, Romania and I have all of those here in the US to use on a daily basis.

The Meterstab will never be replaced, as it is easier to open a beer with it, than with measuring tape...

I totally forgot about those wooden folding rulers! My mom always had one, which she probably got in Germany. Me and my siblings were all born in different cities in Germany, as the usual army brats. ❤

Every electric lineman in the US has a fiberglass or wood folding rule on their climbing belt and several on their truck and at least one in the bucket. It is a very common tool for us measuring where to drill holes in a pole or distances from this part to that.

I am in the US and use all these items except for the soda - I like my water flat 😅 enjoy your time with your family!

I had forgotten that folding rulers existed. When I was very very young, I found a folding ruler somewhere, and it was more fun to play with than measure with. I was somehow so fascinated with how I could fold it out, then back together, and I’d challenge myself with different shapes I could make with it. I grew up before the internet existed, so this was one of the many ways we found to entertain ourselves pre-internet.

My family has a Sodastream, but we don’t use it often. When we do, we add flavoring to the water, like Mio. Sometimes, we use it to make homemade Mountain Dew or Pepsi.

“Filterhalter” are called pour-overs in the US. The people that use them are usually known as coffee nerds.

I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I've never been to Europe, but I have all those things except for #2.😊

Long and short shoehorns, 12 inch rulers, yardsticks, cloth measuring tapes, and wooden and metal folding measuring sticks used to be very common in the US. The compact, retractable, metal measuring tape that fits in the pocket or clips on the pocket or belt has proven itself to be more practical and has replaced most of the other measuring devices.

I collect folding rulers. Though they’re less practical than measuring tapes, they’re fun to use and can double as giant fidget toys.

The folding measure is called a carpenter's ruler used building concrete and brick building.

Once again, you nailed it head on! German immigrant to the US here for almost 30 years now. Even after 30 years, I have my super convenient water kettle and filter halter to make my coffee every morning. I still have a zollstock in cm. It took me years to adjust to the imperial feet and inches measurements, but always use a measuring tape in my handyman work and steel rulers for my woodcrafts now.

Specifying still water is one of the first five words I utter in most German restaurants. Doesn't seem to be used as much nowadays but it used to be asking for "ohne", which always made still water feel like the second-class water option!

Every Bricklayer has at least two folding measuring sticks. They have markings on the back, for altering the height of each course of brick.

The folding measuring device afaik is available today. Hardware stores stocked them when I was a kid.

There's a great book by an LDS author that shows that there is perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account concerning the garden of Eden. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books and Benchmark Books.
