Key Specifications of the Synology DS224+:

CPU: The DS224+ is powered by a robust quad core Intel Celeron J4125 processor (4-core 2.0 (base) / 2.7 (burst) GHz), which provides rapid data processing and supports multiple tasks simultaneously, ensuring smooth and responsive performance for all connected users.

Memory: Equipped with a generous amount of 2GB RAM (Maximum Memory Capacity 6 GB (2 GB + 4 GB)), the DS224+ allows for faster data transfer rates and supports more concurrent users, making it ideal for businesses with multiple employees accessing the NAS at the same time.

Drive Bays: The unit comes with two drive bays, allowing for a flexible storage configuration. Users can opt for a single-disk setup, a RAID 1 configuration for data redundancy, or expand their storage capacity with the addition of compatible drives.

Networking: With dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, the DS224+ facilitates high-speed network connectivity and allows for link aggregation, which enhances data transfer rates and provides network redundancy in case one connection fails.

Ports: The NAS features USB ports for additional external storage options and peripherals, as well as for backing up data to external drives.

Operating System: Running on Synology's DiskStation Manager (DSM), the DS224+ benefits from an intuitive user interface and a wide range of applications that can be installed to extend its functionality, from cloud services to virtualization tools.

Data Protection: The DS224+ includes comprehensive security features to protect your data, such as AES 256-bit encryption, advanced backup solutions, and snapshot technology, ensuring your data is safe from accidental loss or cyber threats.

Multimedia Support: The device is capable of being a central hub for multimedia content, offering smooth streaming of high-definition videos, music, and photos to various devices such as computers, mobile phones, and media players.

Surveillance: With support for IP cameras and Synology's Surveillance Station software, the DS224+ can also serve as a surveillance solution, allowing users to manage and record video footage from multiple cameras.

Although Synology officially indicates a maximum of 4Gb's of extra memory, I added an extra 16Gb's in my DS220+ :)
Overkill for sure, but I got a good deal for it. A total of 6 to 8Gb's is probably the sweet spot for most people. Especially when you're going to run any additional apps on the NAS itself. Mine is already using around 10% of its built-in memory just sitting idle (with Plex server installed)

I've been on the Synology NAS journey. My conclusion, such as it is, would be to buy the 4 drive units rather than the 2 drive units. Having said that one of my "main" NAS units is the 214+ with 2 x 3TB WD drives. I've also been pleased with the Toshiba N300 series drives although they are not as quiet as the WD drives. I'm also a Draytek fan.

Do you find the WD Red HDD drives cause any issues with compatibility? Synology is pretty set on claiming only their products are compatible but from what I've seen others seem to work without any issues, it just comes up with a yellow warning when you install them. Did you come across this as well? Also, do you know if this setup would work well with Plex?

I recently bought a DS224+. I want to know if the CT4G4SFS8266 RAM still works with version 7.2. I just want to add that to my NAS.
