A Wild Tree (Yamadori) Becomes a Bonsai

Collected trees (yamadori in Japanese) often possess qualities that are almost impossible to recreate by hand. This is usually due to the harsh conditions they have endured over long periods of time.

In this video I create a bonsai from a 70+ year old collected Sabina Juniper, doing my best to enhance the natural characteristics of the tree without losing the wild magic within.

I’m truly grateful for the response to the videos I’ve uploaded so far, and I’m working as fast as I can to keep producing them. Thank you for the patience and support. I am of course limited by nature and the seasons (and a bit of perfectionism too) but rest assured there are plenty more on the way.

Dude... I'm not sure what's more impressive... your bonsai work or you videography/post production work. Another stellar video!!!

This guy is to bonsai what my mechanics is to restoration, just insane. You'd think he'd apprenticed in Japan for 10 years whist taking a filming and editing masters.

I don't know which is better. . . His Bonsai skills or his video/audio editing skills. Truly exceptional!

I Love the parts when he gets invisible for giving us a better look on the bending

I like that this guy came out of nowhere and just dropped awesome bonsai videos with no ending in sight

Sick tree. It’s been too long since your last video!!!
Edit: You have outdone yourself. I didn’t think that stop motion effect could have been improved, this time it looked as if the tree was actually moving by itself. Outstanding videography!!

The time lapse with the branches moving was beautiful. Not only the tree is beautiful, the whole video is.

When you go invisible and start folding the branches....that is legit the best. I know it takes forever to edit something like that

Even before you styled the tree, it looked beautiful in its natural state! But gosh, seeing the before and after.... it's like day and night. Two beautiful trees: one natural, one designed.

I don't know any videos that really demonstrate the entire spirit of bonsai quite like yours. You clearly articulate your artistic vision, explain your use of sustainable technical skills to manifest it, and brilliantly film the whole process for a video that's beautiful from start to finish. Yours are the videos I show to people when I want to explain what bonsai is.

Flippin heck... I'm speechless... where do I begin... your skill as a bonsai artist is off the chart, your vision to see the bonsai from within the raw material.. the horticultural skill... then the lighting, photography, stop motion photography, videography, editing, music... just blown away by it all and I've been keeping bonsai for over 30 years, you have a skill that's rare. Very very very impressive.

The choreography with the music is phenomenal! This is my favorite of your projects so far. The contrast in colors is beautiful!

You don't post many videos, but when you do, both the bonsai and the videos are works of art. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It's apparent that you are a good parent as well.

the level of production and effort you put into these videos truely does not go unappreciated. Not only a master craftsman when it comes to bonsai, but also videography and editing. Stellar work

This video blew my mind! Not only is the quality of work on the yamadori especially good but also the video editing, the synchronisation with the music with the cutting of branches and the timelaps of the binding process...this literally made my day!
Thank you!

This stop motion style of documentary is absolutely outstanding and unique in the bonsai video genre. Just awesome, like the trees and what you make of them.
