I lived in Corpus Christi until I was 10 years old. I remember when Hurricane Carla hit that area. My parents finally made the decision that we were evacuating and my dad said we were one of the last to leave before all roads were closed. I think I was 8 years old at the time but it was really impressed on me that hurricanes, or any storms, are no joking matters. I now live 45 miles northwest of Waco and have a house big enough that, when needed, I can provide a shelter from storms for my family that is still along the coastline.

I'm in Corpus Christi by the coast.. Thankfully we didn't get hit. I've been through too many storms and crazy weather to count, so our main rule is keep the yard clean and clear so items don't fly around. Our generator is regularly checked and we always have gas for it, and we always keep batteries charged and emergency prep items handy. Having everything ready cuts down on our prep time. We didn't even have to do anything to prep for this storm.

Beryl was a bugger even 200 miles north! What a day. We are among the few who never lost power but the 91+ tornado whack-a-mole tried my soul. Harvey never dropped a drop, Beryl gave us 6" in July!

50 miles northwest of Houston-Bellville. The last three months we’ve had devastating baseball size hail storm that damaged our work trucks, business building, and country home. The next month-tornado right through our small community-we still haven’t cleaned up all the downed trees and torn fences. Today more high wind damage-tree took out our chicken pen-4” swirling rain and no power till tonight-thank you God! But over 2 million homes within 50-100 mile diameter around us including our grown children and their families, out of power still. One son and his family flew into Dallas from overseas this evening and will be arriving tomorrow for a much needed 2 week reunion. What a crazy summer….so far!

10 times better to be prepared than another statistic.

We got ready as well. We are just outside of corpus so we were ready for a direct hit. Luckily we are far enough away from the coast we wouldn’t have been in danger of storm surge and flooding but we were ready for the rain and high winds. Luckily (and unluckily!), we didn’t get a drop of rain nor any wind. Everyone is talking about how this was just a practice run, there will be another hurricane this season. It’s looking to be an active summer!
I love the message of this video so much y’all! Be ready, not in an apocalypse end-of-world type of way, but a natural disaster type of way. We were in south TX on vacation during hurricane Harvey. We watched our beloved town of Port Aransas take a direct hit and they are still recovering. However this just inspired us to be prepared and ready for natural disasters. It’s never too late to prepare!

Living my whole life in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, we prepared at the beginning of the season every year. Now that I've moved to Louisiana, I feel I can handle anything. I'm a city girl in the country, but I was raised by wonderful parents who taught me everything I needed to know. Thankful you were missed, but I'm praying for all those that were hit by the storm.

Hey, I remember when the water was so high they were driving boats 😳.
Its always good to have the necessary tools for bad weather👍.
There was a joke: The storms winds were coming in so strongly that a man said I'm gonna tie myself to a tree.
The other man said it's not that the wind is blowin, its what the wind is blowin.
A yeild sign cutting you in half is not safe!
In that be safe woth your choices and stay on the porch an drink beer🎉.
Ill be thinking of you🤗.

Great team work. Smart folks. Being prepared. We were under a boil water mandate for 3 days here in North Texas. Now back to using water. Be safe.❤

I have lived most of my life in Central Texas. I know that 95% of the hurricanes will not be a threat to us. Unfortunately I have gotten lazy and stop doing my storm preparedness. Thank you so much for the reminder.

Born and raised in Houston, lived in Katy 13 years, a few other places including 16 years outside of DC. We always had bug out bags! Been through many hurricanes, even one in Concan( vacation when I was in 7/8 grade! Went up the river(Frio) watched cars, cows and many other things go down the river. Afterwards, brother dove to get peoples purses and things out of cars. Now we live in the Hill Country near Boerne, close to San Antonio. Sad to see where people have built and if we ever get a hurricane. Thin top soil and deep rock layers. Nothing will hold back the water.

Living in North Texas and this hurricane just meant a day of really nice and cool weather. Earlier storms in late Spring brought bad hail and damaging winds though. Really made us realize the responsibility of making sure things were safely tied down or put away before thunderstorms in this area. Glad you all are okay and prepared!

Just got electric last night. I live an hour NE of Houston, we got our butts kicked. I have lived through hurricanes my whole life, 52 years. This was the craziest Cat1 I have ever seen. My garden is gone, 3 trees down in my back yard, and my neighbors tree on my house. Thank God my family and friends are all safe and well.

So glad you were able to spend the time to do this update! «sigh of relief»
I was watching Ryan Hall's YT channel early this morning for the live storm updates
while Beryl was still 10-20 miles offshore... and thought of y'all, of course. :)

This makes me be thankful and grateful to be where I am, in south africa we have many problems but we dont have huge devastating natural disasters, yes the Cape burns every year and huge hail is a common experience, the last couple of years flash floods are also on the rise, power and water shortages are daily life for us, but It has always been heart breaking to see the utter devastation earthquakes/hurricanes etc have in other parts of the world. Have your lamps ready, just in case its the right thing to do ❤

Actual life survival skills should be taught in schools, or part of a homeschool curriculum. We don't get the hurricanes in the UK you get, but we get the relentless rain that living on a tidal river teaches you to be hyper allert. Especially when you've had a herd of horses to move as it's about to flood, or your family later need to. I also think that convenience taking the place of basic skills has given far too many people the impression that it will always be there. That this convenience is their saviour in an emergency, rather than the hole in their raft. I hope everyone manages to make it through safely.
