A New Zealand company has generated the first 3D color X-Ray images of the human body by using an advanced medical scanner. The scanner utilizes CERN's Medipix3 technology and has been in development for a decade. It's able to produce high resolution images thanks to particle tracking technology.

It would be a great tool for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) quality Check. If resolution is fine enough it can be used to detect contamination or anomalies within the PCB . This application does not need a clinical trail, but maybe a more power full X-Ray tube. I would be very interested in that application.

Biomedical Engineer here: This doesn't seem to be anything new/ game changing at all. CT( which also uses X-Rays) has been able to differentiate between different tissue types etc. for basically since it's been inventend. To then colorize this data as shown here is trivial - it's simply not typically done, as it's not particularly useful. And to get the 3D data they'd still need some sort of rotating scanner/ detector assembly, using a different (? have not checked the details on how different it really is) type of detector chip does not/ can not change that. Soo it's basically just CT?

"full colour" is definitely a stretch of the phrase. It's colorised afterwards based on density, probably in 3 or 4 different colours regions, not like the full-(16 million)-colour of modern tech.

Far out and groovy! We could all use those, for doing home repairs, even scanning entire vehicles to locate exact repair location. Scan trump steaks looking for the soylent green content.
