Very true.
Lent gets built up so bad that it can reach the pilot or heating element of the dryer.
Better to have cleaning, then to lose your house.
I have even seen a case where somebody's oven was not working and when I went there I checked the vent and found that there was seven generations of bird nests inside their ventilation pipes. These must be cleaned as well. And make sure you have the proper devices to keep creatures out of your ventilation.

I just do it myself since I've got an older house and the dryer vent isn't in the wall and is detachable, so I just take it off the inside wall and take it outside and put a leaf blower inside one of the ends.

All dryers have thermal fuses to keep them from over heating. Clogged vents don't cause fires, they just stop your dryer from working. I ve been working on appliances for 35 years, the only time dryers start fires is when there is a electrical short.

I was at a campground last Labor Day and the guy next to me began assembling his camp fire. I am a noob so I watched him closely. He went to his truck and pulled out a large trash bag. It was FULL of dryer lint. He grabbed a handful and set it in the pit. He then set his fatwood sticks and more tender on top. He lit the lint and it ignited instantly and burned with enough heat to not only get the fatwood going, but the tinder itself! I was stunned. He said he pulls out the lint trap and saves it for fire starting. Now, if that doesn't tell you what you need to know about dryer lint, nothing will!
