The Beit She'arim Necropolis is an extensive complex of over 30 burial systems carved from the limestone cliffs in the western foothills of the Lower Galilee in northern Israel. This almost 2000-year-old door leads into a labyrinth of caves containing some of the most interesting archaeological discoveries we have made in the last century. The people of the time were somehow able to carve out the huge complex with only chisels and hammers. This incredible complex contains large amounts of mysterious stone sarcophagae. One fascinating aspect of the site is the inscriptions found in the caves and on the stone sarcophagai. They are written in several languages, including Greek, Aramaic, Hebrew, and Palmyrene, alongside depictions of animals, humans, and even mythological creatures.
