Pinan Shodan Bunkai: First Sequence Snippet

Yesterday’s closed dojo class, amongst other things, looked at some combative analysis from the initial sequence of Pinan Shodan.

We explored how the kata provides a set of important tactics and contingencies wrt gaining positional advantage and angles, built in redundancy, striking off the first beat, meotode and indexing, the active use of hikite, using muchimi to stick, follow and control, how the transitions between stances are functionally used, exploiting predictable response and different ways of utilising the kata enbusen depending on that response…
