Bhagavad Gita - Verse by Verse - Verses 18.1 - 18.5 - Session 131
Показать описание
Method of teaching used by Sri Krishna in Bhagavadgita is ‘saṅkṣēpa vistharābhya bodhanam', meaning there is an initial summary called as Upakrama saṅkṣēpa, which is the Chapter 2 and then there is an elaborate teaching from 3rd to 17th chapter and then the final summary called as Upasamhara saṅkṣēpa, which is the 18th Chapter, Moksha Sanyasa Yoga.
In the 18th chapter, Arjuna asks about the difference between 'Sanyasa' and 'Tyaga'. Sri Krishna says some sages opine that giving up karmas (except compulsory daily vihita karma and situational naimithika karma) is Sanyasa and Tyaga is letting go of the results of the Karma. So, Karma Tyaga is 'Sanyasa' and Karma Phala Tyaga is 'Tyaga'. Some other sages say that all karmas, including compulsory ones should be given up as they cause spiritual obstructions.
Sri Krishna gives his verdict by saying Sanyasa and Tyaga are both the same and encourages spiritual seekers to pursue Yajna, Dana and Tapas for spiritual progress.
