Good advice Daryl. I heard a good saying years ago: "when times are good, people will spend money to save time. When times are bad, they'll spend time to save money". In other words when the economy is going well they'd rather pay someone to do the handyman jobs. When the economy is not going so well they might leave those jobs until the cash is flowing again in future or try to do it themselves. Building relationships with your customers by doing quality and reasonably priced work will help to make you recession-proof due to their repeat requests to do more work. Reputation is everything.

Hey Daryl!! I don't comment on videos much, but I just found you and I've watched a few of your videos. I wanted to take a second just to say, keep making them sir!! I'm newly retired and starting this handyman service fresh from ground up. I'm finding that watching your videos is like just hanging out with a friend. Great job! and I'm looking forward to watching more. Have a Wonderful Day from "The Retired Guy Handyman"!!

Rich people were some of my worst customers honestly. Very entitled usually, and they try to not pick every little thing. I once had a women complain because I swept up my mess but not the whole kitchen for her. 😅 middle class and lower class were always so appreciative and patient.

I been in the game 3 years and you are totally right. I’m going back home to reset and get back on my feet but I’m not giving up on my handyman business. I’m going to invest in learning new skills especially drywall and frame work.

In florida realtors and property managers never find you work. They say they will but never get you work.

I work for a utility and rich people are usually horrible. I love working the middle and lower class areas the most. The people are real and appreciate your work! Thanks for the videos. I’m doing handyman work as a side hussle cause I’m getting too old to run and gun with the young guys in the electricity trade. Appreciate you man!

I’m about to start my own Handyman business in the uk after working as a general maintenance guy for a big transport company for the last six years and doing various building and joinery jobs previously to that.
My skills are very varied and to a good level so I can do most small to mid size jobs within most trades. My issue has been taking the leap….. I’ve been constantly working on weekends and evenings to get my name out there and I’m finally going it alone in March. I’m even taking the company I currently work for on as a client as they still want me to do certain jobs for them as a contractor so it’s win win for me and them. Never burn bridges, never promise what you can’t, always turn up on time and always leave jobs clean and tidy! These go such a long way and will win you repeat business all the time. I’m 42 and I think that I’m at the perfect age to be doing this, any younger and I didn’t know enough, any older and I wouldn’t be able to do as much. I love this job and couldn’t do a single job again, every day is different it’s great!

Thanks Daryl for another great vid! Agree with you. The drywall repairs are a great source for customers with great reviews and usually call me back later to do other work. Middle class is a great demographic for handyman work- my middle class clients are busy and just want a person they can trust to show up when they are supposed to and do good work.
