Baidu Apollo Go Gets License for Robotaxi Tests in Hong Kong

A backup operator will remain onboard to take control if needed. This trial follows new legislation in Hong Kong, effective March 1, 2024, enabling broader autonomous vehicle testing on public roads. Baidu submitted its application last month, and testing at the airport is expected to begin by the end of this year.

Baidu introduced its sixth-generation robotaxi earlier this year, priced at $27,610—60% cheaper than the previous model. By the end of 2024, Baidu plans to deploy 1,000 of these robotaxis in Wuhan.
