This is Henry's song. His confession to Julia after the game. The newly redeemed Henry is taking responsibility and admitting that when Julia got Alzheimer's, he would rather go blind to Julia's suffering and run away into the woods than see Julia hurt, like Ned, who, after the death of his son, did the same thing. Little did he know that Ned would save him, with that tape on the rock at the end of the game, which led Henry to realize that running away was never the answer, or else he would end up like Ned Goodwin, a man who lost his son, lost his will, lost his soul, and probably burned away in the woods.

Just finished the game and it was an incredible experience

The ending was just depressing. Not because of the context, but just because it had to end. I wish there was more.

I may not think about this game all the time. But man is it hard to forget the experiences that it left me with, this song cementing those feelings .

This game was such a breath of fresh air of all the war games that flood the video game market and this is just a beautiful trip filled with philosophical ideas and overall amazing story. It almost felt like the castaway version of a video game.

I wish I could go back in time, and experience it over and over and over. Masterpiece and my favorite game. I cry every time.

IMO part of the sadness of the ending is that D and H really did work well together, they could have been friends or lovers in another world. They both ran from their problems, fell back into old patterns. The fire and the whole story forced them to get on with their lives, to resolve their trauma. Whatever new relationship they could have had together would only be more running away instead of facing their past mistakes. H needed to let her live her own life and move on with his, wherever that road took him.
Its weird, it took meeting each other and the story for them to realise it.

This game has been out for over 6 years now and replaying it now has my heart in shambles for the second time. The message and gameplay is close to that of a masterpiece.

Ned really did love his son. It was an accident. 😭

The lyrics to this song seems like it was spoken from Julia's perspective as if she was observing Henry take up new companionship with Delilah. That little dialogue with Delilah about Julia and everything in that final sequence was really something. Henry wanted to meet with Delilah (or be with her depending on your text choices), but the game blue-balled us (in a way) to ensure that we still have a grasp on reality.

EDIT: I mean, obviously the song was created before the game. But the fact the devs chose this is very fitting.

Have never been so personally attached to a game, when the game ended I have felt really sad it’s like I was the character in the game, it gave me a break from real life and when it ended that’s when I knew this game was good.

Visuals, dialogue and story were amazing. I only feel that the game was over hyped which got the expectations of many persons up and consequently because of the non significant ending had them greatly disappointed. I walked into the game neutral and came out feeling so happy about having played the game. It was a great game and maybe has no replay value but will always find a place among games like gone home, transistor, bastion and so on. Not to forget the great soundtrack which led me to here !

This game is smth best. As somone who never had and probably will never have any kind of love life, this kind of distant love and attachments really proved as a different experience moreover it filled my emptiness :)
Everynight from a new place where I moved in, when I am watching in distance, where standing tower shines its red light towards my windows, it reminds me of everything that happend in firewatch :D

Im a hardcore fallout and BioShock fan and fps ww2 tactical shooter fan and i recently just played firewatch for the first time. Literally made me tear up at the end with this song. An amazing story. Amazing voice acting. Amazing lore and the fact this song connects both ned and Henry's story together.

Ned have lossing his son and rather then confront it head on. Telling the police he slipped and fell and having a real burial. He shut it down cowardly and had an intimate relationship with dave in the woods. Dave also a hermit decided to die off in the woods. Ofc not fully explained.

But henry didn't wanna confront Julia's illness head on either and would rather run away start a new life in the wilderness. This can be seen from his (half sexual encounters with deliial on the walkie talkie) them both having alcohol addiction like ned
