i've seen this video b4 and its quite advanced on the ear training element in those "outside moments" but i'm pretty sure that little quick movement is (F#- E- D-) or F6 Going 2 that F# maj triad... all of this is a device called parallel motion... Chick Corea does a similar thing on Return 2 Forever using Maj7 chords going down or up on a whole tone scale... thanks for taking the time tho this definitely helps unlock the some mysteries of Cory Henry's harmonic brain... haha

Hey bro, awesome video and thanks so much!! Just a lil pointer in case no-one has yet. At around 43:06 where you explain the way he uses an Eb triad again? Not quite a simple Eb there though is it? See you play an F to approach the G of the alleged Eb triad right? Except it's an F# (Gb!?) - so he's basically combining an Eb and Ebm triad in the same line which gives it the more mysterious, haunting quality. It's what makes Cory such a master, the seamless morphing between tonalities. Loved this Vid, helped me get to the bottom of a whole bunch of stuff I've been trying to dig - keep em coming!!! Peace.

Subbed just for this song. I've been playing for over 20 years, and technique aside, I've been able to play a lot of music without really grasping the "why" behind a lot of it. Thanks for taking the time to help me understand that why... so much to learn.

If you ever get a chance, check out a guy called Valeriy Stepanov. He's another monster player that does a lot worth investigating and analyzing.
