For those wondering about smooth inking, definitely check out our other inktober shorts. Lydia is working fast and furious in this video to show a certain style and energy, but if you think she’s only got one mode, then you don’t know the true secret of being a good inker, which is range and adaptability. Plenty of smooth calligraphy style brush work in the other vids. But the point here is that you have to build up to that with practice, and there’s more than one way to ink a drawing.

Lydia has mad skills. So much skill and talent. I love that she does her inking by hand. It's becoming a lost art. ❤

So absolutely true, sometimes if doing something the "right way" isnt working, try another way! It just might turn out better!

Decades ago as an amateur artist I drew, inked, and then colored all my comic and cartooning work before moving on to different artists fields. I never got good at it; but it was both a pleasurable and challenging experience. I might have gotten better had I had access back then to these types of internet instructional shorts.

That's sweet to watch, and its a key I had not thought of. She's making it come alive so much because its so loose.

This artist is amazing and very talented with their work. I just got my calligraphy pen and ink. I didn’t realize so many manga artist use them so I have to try them out.

I would recommend Nicolas Nemiri regarding this approach to inking (He even has a yt-channel: „Nemiri“)

It also depends entirely on the particular inking aesthetic you're going for. In this case, they're going for that iconic 60's-70's comic style and they've absolutely nailed it. The heavy line weight and abrupt transitions make it feel gritty and dynamic. Manga inking often utilizes several different nibs to draw in fine details and more significant line weight without tiring their wrist out struggling to maintain fine line weights with a flexi nib.

The first time I heard Analoge inkimg I almost laugh, but the more I think about it, the more I like the term

I personally like the thinner nibs as I am able to give my sketches more details but everyone has a style and that’s what makes art great!

The knee on the right's wrinkles looked so fcking cool. She just did some thick horizontal lines without connecting them but placed them so perfectly
