For every one following the steps in the video which worked perfect on ubuntu 18 but I got stuck on ubuntu 19 and I was baffled why, I found the reason:
on the mark @1:28 when you create the user, if you are using ubuntu 19 which uses mysql 8 the instruction of adding user is different a bit:
CREATE USER 'openemruser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED WITH mysql_native_password BY 'password';
Once you pay attention to this line the rest of the steps will go as per the video and you will be up and running on this excellent tutorial that will get the job done…!

Hi, when I try to do the setup I cant get further then Step 2. I always get an error saying it can't connect to MySQL. what can I do? I followed everything you did exactly as it is in the video

thanks a lot. i got stuck at 5:25. unable to login and move to 5:34 Because i created a VM in GCP, perhaps there lies the problem. instead of localhost, i entered GCP External IP, but it still didn't login. Port may be but i can't figure out how to identify correct port number. Thanks a lot anyway.

Please also note that you will find :
mysqli.allow_local_infile = On there, you will think leave it as it is since it says on, but you have to remove the ; that starts the line to make it executable @ 3:11

At 5:20 you say to select "I have already..." but in the video you select option 1 "Have setup create..."
