Realistic tips for taking care of your teeth for ADHD, depression, etc.
Dental Hygienist: missbuggy on TT!

Tips:
- If you only brush once a day, night is the best time.
- You DON'T need toothpaste! Brushing with water is fine!
- Brushing when vou remember is better than not brushing at all. It's okay to brush at random times if you don't remember in the morning/at night.
- Brushing for a few seconds is better than not brushing at all!
- Don't be mad at yourself, it's OKAY. You don't always have the energy. You're doing the best you can!
- Keep a toothbrush in the shower. If you only brush once a day, night is the best time.

If you think you have ADHD, I made a worksheet to help determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria and talk to your doctor about it!

LOVE THIS! There's so much shame associated with not being able to brush or other hygiene things, but that's the reality with ADHD and/or depression

I Love this advice. I was always told how important it is to brush the full two minutes every time which for someone with ADHD can make the task two hard to do twice a day

This is amazing, please make life hacks like this for literally all aspects of every day life. ADHD means we have to have such radically different routines in all areas of life than everyone else but I’m just thankful that finally people realize women can get adhd (i suffered through a childhood in the unfortunate before times when doctors still said girls don’t get adhd and wasn’t diagnosed til mid adulthood like most women nowadays). My friends and family all still don’t believe women can get adhd, so i have no one to talk about it with in real life and have to get 100% of my support from the internet and stuff like this really helps.

Something that really helps me is swishing with water after i eat. This takes almost no effort bc I just swallow the water. It doesnt get all the food bits but getting but even getting most food bits out seriously slows the growth of "tooth fuzz".

I made myself a sticker chart for tooth brushing and showering and it has helped immensely. A lot of it is purely just not remembering, and then the rest is lack of energy or motivation or executive function. So a visual reminder, and a dopamine hit as a motivater, and visual tracking to show me how long its been since I've last done it, has really helped keep me more on track. Im still not 100% but im like 300% better than i was before

As someone with ADHD I just want to say THANK YOU! I was fighting some procrastination last night and tried the body doubling system and it was enough for me to actually accomplish a task!

Good advice!!! Very useful!!!
I only brush my teeth at night before going to bed, that works really well for me, I don't even have any issues in my teeth (besides teeth grinding due to anxiety).
My dentist told me that if I'm ok with brushing my teeth once a day, then I should keep it like that. I can keep the routine because I've linked it to putting on my pajamas, so it's easier to remember to do it. Plus, it became such an important thing for me to do, that if I don't do it, I just can't sleep till I get my teeth brushed.

As a therapist told me, anything worth doing is worth doing a half-assed job on--IF some is better than none and none is the actual alternative to some!

So many of those tips I had done as an undiagnosed ADHD kid. I definitely stopped doing those things as an adult and I think that made it worse for myself. Good reminders.

One of the things I like to do while brushing at night is putting my foot up on the toilet to stretch my hamstrings, that way I feel like I'm accomplishing more because I need to stretch anyways (and I always forget to) and this way I can stretch my right leg for a minute, then left leg for a minute, and it helps pass the time a little quicker and I feel double accomplished for both stretching and brushing my teeth! :-) (also if the 1-minute of hamstring stretch is too much for me sometimes I'll do a quad stretch as well so that way I can do 30 seconds of right quad, 30 seconds left quad, 30 secs right ham, 30 secs left.)
