If they can’t come home for 6 months, they are stuck.

They were stranded if Nasa refused to accept Boeings failure and didn't allow Space X to return them home safely.

News headlines sure made it sound like they were stranded when I first read about it.

If the plane that can take you home has been unable to do so for 6 months, you are stranded. But if a spacecraft is not able to do so, you are not stranded. 😂

I think Bill Nelson is maybe ok. He’s kept NASA going pretty good these last 3-1/2 years. And I’m a SpaceX fan. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already planning to retire next year.
I read somewhere Boeing has already lost $1.5 billion on this Starliner debacle. I suspect, if it doesn’t burn up on reentry, but lands flawlessly, they’ll finally get the thing working right for the 1st operational mission a little over a year from now. But then if the missions are alternated between CrewDragon and Starliner, every 6 months, there will only be opportunity for Starliner to go the ISS about 5 more times before the ISS is deorbited in 2031. However, there should be another station starting up before that time, I think. It might turn out to be a good capsule…if they would use a cost-effective, reusable booster as the launcher…but they won’t. There are 15 more Atlas V’s to be launched, 6 are already purchased for Starliner to the ISS.
The other thing is, we don’t hear much from the two astronauts affected. If they are enthusiastic to stay up there and come home in February, then there’s no news here, only a lot of hype. I guess the only thing is if two astronauts, or 1 astronaut and the 1 cosmonaut, get bumped off the 9th CrewDragon launch in October, that’s a bummer for them.

Interesting and the right decision. Would I be right in thinking that this is another first in that these Astronauts are using different spacecraft to launch and return to earth?

How many times has Boeing sacrificed lives for profits and greed?

Not sure why it took NASA this long to come to this conclusion! Seemed like this was the best option, weeks ago. Unless they were delaying to try and allow Boeing to save the embarrassment to being bailed out by their competitor. With the preflight issues with the helium leaks, seems to me that Starliner should have never been given the go for flight. And I can't help but wonder why the Dragon and Starliner flight suits are not compatible.

This is exactly what happens when you let bean counters run technology companies.

I've been a boeing fan ever since I was a small child and watched the 747 come out.

When Bowie moved out of Seattle, they lost their roots. They lost what made them great by keeping everybody in one place by letting management be close to the worker's And to the engineers, there was a certain synergy. A common focus that is lost with the move to Chicago.

Maybe they should just celebrate Christmas 2029, and then come home

Good. Don't risk two more precious souls. Get them off starlight and disembark it from ISS so SpaceX can connect for the return mission.

*These two astronauts were the substitutes of the substitutes...for them being in space is an absolute triumph...they are happy...the problem is for Boeing's pride...the higher you go, the harder the fall.*

Making light of a horrific situation is ridiculous! Yes, they may not be starving, but they are stuck in space till February. Just say it like it is. They’re stranded and should already be home.
