Keep in mind, you don't HAVE to leave the area next to your home blank of landscaping, jut choose proper plants. You can use succulents... they are FILLED with water, and don't contain volatile oils. They will not burn... you can plant Aloe Vera next to the house! They are nothing but a big ol bag of water

Why aren't these fire resistant upgrades mandatory in the state building code - especially in fire prone areas? All new development should require them.

He also owns one of the largest restoration companies in LA. OP is the real deal!

He is the CEO of a fire/water restoration company, which is probably how he knows the details

I imagine the mesh also keeps various insects out of the attic.

This should be mandatory for all California homes.

ABC7 should replay this segment and also add to it by looking at the revised building standards after the Paradise Camp fire in NoCal.

Would love to revisit this news story and see how his house fared in the recent fires.

This needs to be incorporated into building codes. Think how different the Pacific Palisades situation would have been

as an architect you can only do so much, im surprised he did not put sprinklers on the roof that turn on. The sprinklers are now standard in malibu

Good Job! Always good to be prepared and safe (Contingency Plan).

Also coat house with fire retardant, and turn on several oscillating sprinklers on roof when evacuating.

"The goal is, when the fire does hit, is my house still going to be there." Good. good, well put. I love local news.

Home insurance should pay them for doing that.

Always be the prepared. Fire resistant, not fire proof. But sometimes the simplest things make a difference. There was a guy in napa that rebuilt his home out of concrete since lumber prices are out of control. A Much more fire proof design.

They would be neighbor less in the near future.

Make this as a standard feature. Don’t overpriced these fireproof materials. It’s for the safety of everyone.

if the state gave incentives to homeowners to have this done then maybe we can save millions if not billions from fighting wildfires $4000 is a small price to pay for a home that costs over a million
