Jeff Bezos's INSANE NEW Decision REVEALS plan to build a commercial space station to replace ISS

The International Space Station is getting old. However, NASA does not want to build another one at taxpayer’s expense. Instead, it wants to be just one of many customers for commercial space stations. But it wants to be sure something is ready before the ISS reaches the end of its lifetime and avoid a space station gap when it cannot do research in Low Earth Orbit.
And fortunately, the ISS may have a wealth of private successors. Prominent among them is the plan to build a private space station by Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin.
In today's episode, let's find out more about this space station with Great SpaceX. Is it really possible in the future? And does it meet the requirements of becoming the successor of the ISS?
But first, If you're new to our channel, a sincere welcome from the Great SpaceX team. Make sure you subscribe to the channel and hit the bell so you won't miss any of SpaceX's latest news on our channel.
If you’re all set, then let’s dive right in on today’s episode.
Blue Origin unveiled Monday its plan for a private space station called “Orbital Reef,” which is expected to deploy between 2025 and 2030.
Blue Origin describes the Orbital Reef station, which is a commercially developed, owned, and operated space station to be built in low Earth orbit. The station will open the next chapter of human space exploration and development by facilitating the growth of a vibrant ecosystem and business model for the future.
This unique destination will offer research, industrial, international, and commercial customers the cost-competitive end-to-end services they need including space transportation and logistics, space habitation, equipment accommodation, and operations including onboard crew.
Orbital Reef will be operated as a “mixed-use business park” in space.

Starship by itself can be a space station.

Orbital Reef consists of a catchy name, a Powerpoint Slideshow and a desire for government contracts. There is literally nothing else about the project that is nailed down.

Here we go again. Bezos can’t get to orbit. He can’t launch New Glenn. He can’t compete without lawyers.
Great idea. But the wrong guy.

Gonna be tough for Bezos to build anything in space without a rocket.

I wouldn't count on Jeff building anything unless he can extort a premium for it. He's just one big disappointment after another.

When I worked on the Shuttle program three decades ago we used to say that the Shuttle existed to service the ISS and the ISS existed to give the Shuttle someplace to go. All of it became an exercise in expensive circular logic. And here we go again. Success or failure, at least SpaceX has a concrete and measurable goal.

I think this is a good idea for Blue Origin (Jeff Bezos's), This is a project that seems to be needed and not in competition with SpaceX and will hopefully will get Jeff to do something productive and not just fighting/suing SpaceX (Elon).

No chance at all. Jeff can't get it up yet(to orbit)

Interesting idea, but since Jeff hasn't reached orbit yet what is the plan? Pay for SpaceX to launch all of the modules?

Sounds like a cool project, though Jeff's involvement makes me nervous. Amazon is trying to push out competition by (almost) any means, and that approach will probably be as toxic in space as it is here on earth.

Nothing is “insane” when it comes to Mr.Musk and his SpaceX.

how does he plan to launch it? is he going to use starship?

Besos forgets the ISS needs to orbit and not just go to the Karman line... 😅

My understanding of "Order of Magnitude" means move the decimal one place.

This from the guy that can't get to orbit or deliver engine orders? I'll hold my breath...

Order of magnitude less than ISS. So, 1/10th the price of ISS. Ten billion dollars. As these things go, take it with a grain of salt. Call it twenty billion at a minimum.

Orbital Reef looks like a good concept. It will require a good, reliable orbital transport system to accomplish its construction. I'm not sure is Blue Origin has that capability yet. The whole project hinges on it

Boeing and Bezos!! Should be good to go by 2050

WOW Jeffy! That sounds great!

But I don't know if anyone told Jeff Bezos that space stations must be in orbit. You just can't place one at the Karmen Line and call it a day.

That being said...Has Blue Origin sent anything into orbit? Anything? Anybody?

Some issues:
New Glenn is the truck has yet to launch
Boeing will be the operations managers (horrible recent track record)

The idea of a commercial based space station the idea is sound. It's just the the company proposing has yet to reach orbit & the company that will manage can't even fix their own stuff.

Bezos: Finally, my Space Station is Done.
Musk: (silently sipping his tea on his space hotel). Well, done.
