Yes! This is so important! My plane just broke down as we were about to take off so the flight got canceled. The airline provided a hotel with breakfast and dinner provided and shuttles. I called the airline immediately to reschedule for the earliest flight, standing in line makes no sense. Make sure to save receipts as they should reimburse you for costs related to the delay (like meals, phone calls / purchased internet which can be pricey if you’re abroad). You also can file a claim on the airline’s website and get a reimbursement for a canceled flight, in the case of my flight the reimbursement should be $600.

Edit: I was flying with British Airways from London to Chicago, so that may not apply for American airlines as European law is different. The compensation you receive also depends on the mileage of your flight, the reason why it got delayed/canceled, whether it was rebooked for the same day, etc.

if these are the same delta flights that got delayed back in august in Frankfurt, everything said here is a lie, or at least only applicable to people who are sponsored (like this video btw) or are VIP flyers cause my brothers flight got delayed because of weather just like this one and he was stuck in Frankfurt for THREE DAYS with no answer on what happened and when his next flight was, ended up having to pay for his own hotel. delta isn’t a miracle airline, this video is an ad

I learned the hard way to not get in the line when your flight is delayed. We were going to miss our connection on an international trip. I didn't realize that the attendant at the non-international airport wouldn't book things correctly for us. We ended spending the night in the next airport because the connecting flight she re-booked us on couldn't let us on due to an oversight. If we had called we could have gotten someone with more knowledge on international flights. I don't travel much so this one was a tough lesson, but now we know.

I wish any of that ever worked for me… My flight from JFK to LA was cancelled due to weather, but United was lying to us and kept saying it was delayed 2 hours, every 2 hours until it was 2 am and there were no hotels available and no flights until 2pm that day. I did get some miles as compensation but not much else. Delta didn’t even do that. They were basically telling me you’re stranded in mexico, and I had to buy a last minutes ticket with another airline which they refused to pay for. They never even paid me back for original ticket… and their customer service had the nerve to offer me $75 gift card

I had a flight cancelled due to weather and for that reason delta said they did not have to provide any accommodation or compensation. Chase also will only cover pre-paid expenses of the cancellation, so that hotel you get the day of the cancellation will not be eligible.

Delta never gives you anything worth anything even if it’s not weather related they don’t care to compensate whatsoever.
