I found your video while looking for a tutorial for the 'Shimano Lacing Method' and really appreciate you putting this out there! I've only built a few wheelsets and wanted to get this method down. This video helped me achieve that on my latest build.

That you can build wheels, is pretty impressive. Something I’ve always wanted to do. Maybe in the future I shall buy a truing stand 🤔🤔

1. why do you need so much hot water? 2. I am having trouble getting the asymmetrical pattern to place the valve hole in the correct orientation? any tips? Mavic xc1025 key spoke is the second hole after the valve hole.

Easier term to use is Heads in, Heads out. Only difference in the "Shimano Way" is Drive side Trailing spokes are heads in and drive side Leading spokes are heads out. Basically the opposite of a standard lacing. Non-drive side remains the same as a standard wheel build of course. The primary school of thought here is it gives the cross overs on the drive side more bracing across the spokes were they cross over. In my personal experience on 36 hole hubs using a 3-cross lacing the Shimano way isn't necessary and there isn't any measurable gain.
