Where To Get The Best Deal On Used Canon Cameras

I just bought and received a used Canon T3i/600D for my next camera course and I wanted to share my experience getting what I think was a good deal on it.

Craigslist: $400 body only but no idea how many shutter counts are on it. Talked him down from $450 body only.

B&H used: $599 body only

Canon Refurbished: $384 body only (now $480 after the rebate was done)

Canon Refurbished: $431 with kit lens, this is what I got since the body only units went fast. I went ahead and got it because my neighbor is going to buy it from me after I am done with the course.

Here is the link where I found the Canon T3i/600D refurbished cameras, note that the price has gone up again.

I am on the mailing list to get alerted when these deals come around.

Thanks, Dave! Will be getting my 600D end of next month, so both the refurbished links and the training series are fantastic resources for me, right now.
Thanks,
Maciek

I love the Canon direct store! I bought a 24-70mm L (first version) for around $1100! That's a great deal!

On a mac you can go into Preview, Tools, Show inspector, and it should be right under photo number. Thats how I find out how many pictures I've taken.

Hey Dave, I would also advise people to check out eBay for items. Lenses in particular are constantly being bought and sold. I got a barely used Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM lens for $160 dollars and it was originally priced around $330. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing your next video.

Dave I think buying used from Canon is the best way to go really. The kids that made the movie Bad is Bad on Vimeo they bought a used Canon 7D and it had a dead pixel on the sensor and they said they won't buy used anymore for video.

I bought a used Nikon D60 from a friend last year for photography and it has a dead dead pixel. Its not as bad for stills because lightroom can fill in the dead pixels by its self.

Maybe the newer editing software can fix dead pixels on the fly?

Wow, that is great advice. I will have to look for $4 cameras!

I should have moved that broll later so when I talked about testing the wireless distance it would have made sense.

Great video, but how about the best place to get used/less expensive-than-new lenses (which I know is a holy grail of sorts)? Or even the best ways to obtain financing for lenses or even to rent lenses. Lenses is where I have trouble, and it really bothers me because I feel like I'm 'wasting' shots using a 70-200mm F/4L for night football (for example) when I could be getting infinitely better shots with a 2.8 and even better shots with a 2.8 IS. It's frustrating not having money LOL.

Sorry about that Dave. It was free last time I used it. The only other way I know, at least on a 7D which until recently there was nothing from Magic Lantern, is to use gphoto2. There is a nice tutorial on POTN on how to make a Linux live CD or USB with gphoto2 on it. Just follow tutorial and boot to the cd or usb to run gphoto2 and get your shutter count.
