most if not all snails served in restaurants are cultured snails, meaning they come from a farm just as chickens / cows / pigs / fishes do, they're not picked from the wild / garden snails.

I'm french and... never wanted to eat them. 😂 not because I found that disgusting. But when I was kid, I found snails too cute 😅. Now I'm vegetarian (since my 12yo).

In indonesia, we eat snails as well! Freshwater snails that are grown amongst rice fields are most common, known as keong sawah or tutut and its cooked as traditional cuisine which is often boiled or grilled as satay (with seasonings and spices ofc).

It's not unusual for us in Nigeria. I can tell you that. But we don't keep it in the shell. We clean the snail with alum to remove the slime then cook it with fried pepper and adequate seasonings.

We also eat snails in the Philippines except we either cook it in ginger soup or with coconut milk 😅

Greeks eat it too. In Crete it's one of their signature greek dishes 😊

I don't get why it's so weird to many people. We eat other mollusks like squids, clams, and scallops without a second thought, but snails gross people out.

I absolutely love escargot. I first ate it as a child, and have rarely had it since due to how rare it is. Still, i love it

I’m not French, but I have Vietnamese family, and over at Ho Chi Minh it’s quite common to have river and bamboo snails there which are pretty good!

They need to be sizzling hot and you need a baguette to soak up the melted butter!

My french teacher was amazing! We only had 1 french teacher throughout our whole highschool and for anyone who makes it to french 4, at the end of the year if we passed, our french teacher would take us on an overnight trip to visit his parents restaurant and eat escargot! It was a fun experience!

Indonesian here, I live in a village so I used to eat snails when I was a kid. People here cook it with spices and coconut milk and skewer them, very delicious. Nowadays tho, people don't do it again bc the snail source usually from rice fields but since the usage of pesticides we stopped eating them :<
