Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin have introduced the Global Mobile Artillery Rocket System (GMARS) at Eurosatory 2024 in Paris.

The GMARS is mounted on the reliable HX truck and is designed for all weather 24/7 operations. It features a multiple rocket launcher with two pods and an integrated fire control system. The system’s compatibility with the MLRS Family of Munitions enhances its operational flexibility allowing it to fire the same range of munitions used by NATO forces.

A cost effective wheeled version of the M270 MLRS. Lighter weight means it’s easier on roads, easier to move in theater, & lower fuel consumption. As a bonus you still get the full dozen rockets as intended & not the 1/2 dozen the HIMARS gives. HIMARS was designed to supplement the M270 in expeditionary/rapid reactions units with it being air transportable on more airframes & taking up less space in an Amphibious Assault Ship.

Just a bigger himars, but nice to have another option for western countries. Himars has a long waiting list.

This will be an interesting system for Sweden. We have ordered 48 Archers using that truck and I know the army has said they want a system like Himars. With the options to also launch other types of rockets this system is very interesting

K239 Chunmoo has been around a while. Same system. Fires both South-Korean and NATO missiles.

Does it come with a premium sound system, apple air play, and extra cup holders? You know the things that really sell a vehicle.

Question; will the British Government and MoD, buy it for the Royal Artillery in place of buying new M270 Mk.2 tracked MLRS vehicles?

are there any infos about nations showing interest in buying the system?

This thing is huge. 40 tons? It’s great for Europe, but it’s too big for the US. Would be too hard to transport to the numerous places in the world that there are American forces. Nice with double pods though.

As long as the missiles have the range speed and can maneuver in flight it will be a game changer.

Looks large, high and heavy, will it board A400? Or they plan using it at home?

Doubling the amount of ammunition seems sensible at first glance, but this makes the vehicle larger and therefore easier to detect (both visually and by radar). If the device is destroyed, all the ammunition is also destroyed.
It would make more sense to use a smaller vehicle with less ammunition on board and have an ammunition truck ride along. In addition, the launch platform does not have to travel long distances to replenish ammunition because the ammunition transporter does that. Both vehicles are small and therefore easier to hide.
In addition, the same amount of ammunition would have allowed more of these systems to be distributed over the land area. This decentralization makes it more difficult to combat this rocket artillery.
