The Manipur High Court's recent directive to the state government to consider including the Meitei community in the ST category raised tensions in the state and sparked violent protests. The issue of the inclusion of the Meitei community in the ST list of the Constitution has been pending for nearly 10 years. The development has widened the old ethnic faultlines between the valley's Meitei community and the hill tribes.

Late Suisa Rungsung, a Visionary former MP, who later became a Member of the Naga National Council (NNC) once asked and pleaded with Meiteis to accept ST Status. He was humiliated and spat on by Meiteis.

“Ekhoi Hao macha, Hao pang natte” “Eikhoise amaangba mi natte”

Your data is completely wrong. Meeteis population is only 53% (meetei hindus, muslims, sanamahi and Christians). In the valley which is roughly 9% of the total geographical area, all other 34 tribes of manipur plus other indian citizens resides. So, political representation is based on population which is what in this case i.e. 40/20. 40 is open to all but 20 is reserved for ST. You can find nagas fighting municipality election in valley. Also, most of posh areas in Imphal are actually inhabited by Nagas & Kukis. They can fight assembly elections in the plains too. In the valley, most of the rich tribal already are owning lots of properties which is fair and will only increase with time. But meeteis are not allowed to own land in the Hills because of protection by the 5th schedule. Population decline, illegal migration, entry of railways, trans Asian highways, etc will give lots of pressure on meeteis land, culture and religion. So, ST demand is quite genuine on this count.

Yesterday, there was an exclusive meeting for meeteis. Malem, scholars and Professors included....they concluded that Kuki should be finished.
Now, the combined team is going to every sporadic last mile kuki village to attack in the name of threat perception.
The chronology works like this....first a nearby Meetei village will post 'heard that our village or that village is threatened by kuki millitants, help us'....then the combined team will go in the name of threat perception to finish the village. They are going to every village like this. And they will escape with impunity.

Actually ST demand is one of reasons to happen the current situation but it’s not main reason because the violence is in only Meitei and Kuki not in all tribes of Manipur and Meitei. If Meitei ST demand is, all tribes of Manipur will again to Meitei but it’s not happening in this violence. So Kuki is using that reason to hide their illegal activities like supporting of poppy plantation, settlements in the reserves forests, protection of the immigrant from Myanmar in the hill areas ( in churachandpur district).

Meitei are tribal people.... If they demand st .. Why not... They equally have rights in manipur....
Same thing happened with gond tribe in uttarpradesh. . Earlier they they are not included in St in up but now they have their right...other part of india gonds are already st from independent... No conflict
Tribals are tribals by culturally historically whether they are in st or not by ... But demanding for their rights, st is their right which is completely valid...

Manipur mei meitei politically aur financially tribals se kauso mil agae hai, misal ke tor pe baniyas aur dalit jesa.
Migration to cities toh world ka trend hai, sarae development meitei dominated imphal mei kardiya hai aur hill/tribal area mei development rok ke rakha hai(even 6th schedule is not implemented and it is implemented in all other northeastern states). Sarae top medical centres, schools, colleges, businesses, government establishment, isbt, airport, saab 90% meitei log bhare parae hai, toh obviously sarae log imphal city mei hi migrate karange na.
Aab inko tribe status chahiyae taki tribal land kharidneke moke mile bass aur kuch nahi hai yeh jhumla.
Desh ki Samvidhan ki guidence ke andar meitei ko general category mei dala suruaat se aur tribals ko reserved mei, toh baat khatam.

This is quite ironic that so-called Christian nagas and kukis are classified as ST and Hindu meitei tribals as not st. The khangress appeasement to certain religious communities is the problem. Now trying to do the same in southern states. BJP should remove the ST status to Christians in the north east. Thats is the root cause of all problems. How can nagas and kukis who have banned other religions in their state have the audacity to claim equal rights in manipur?
