HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series is back for its second season and in the sixth episode, both Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) find themselves in impossible situations. The Blacks need more dragon riders and enlist Stefan Darklyn (Anthony Flanagan) to attempt to claim Seasmoke. When this goes horribly wrong Rhaenyra fears they’re running out of options.

For the Greens, Alicent is asked to step down from the Small Council now that her son Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) has been named Prince Regent. His brother King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) regains consciousness and swears he doesn’t remember what happened at Rook’s Rest, but Aemond instructs the maesters to keep him heavily sedated. The Regent sends Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) and Ser Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox) and their host to Harrenhal while ordering the Lannisters to attack from the West.

The Blacks' King Consort Daemon (Matt Smith) has a dream with his brother King Viserys (Paddy Considine) that deals with his regrets from the past. This is followed up by a plea for help to Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin) who has been sent to assist with the care of Grover Tully at Riverrun. After he has a second dream that seems to help him find peace with his internal conflicts he gets news that Grover Tully has passed which opens the door for him to recruit an army in the Riverlands.

While the Blacks first attempt to find a new dragon rider in episode 6 fails at Dragonstone, they do have success in winning the smallfolk over to their side by sending boats filled with food to King’s Landing. This was orchestrated by Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) who spends the episode getting closer to the Black Queen and their relationship gets romantic in the closing moments.

Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty) is surprised when the dragon Seasmoke starts chasing him on Driftmark. At the end of the episode Rhaenyra and Mysaria learn that the dragon’s been claimed and the Queen goes out on Syrax to see if the Greens have gained another dragon for their arsenal.

The actor who is playing Ser Simon is one of this season’s MVPs, and it was awesome to get a look at Stormcloud. Loved that Paddy finally invaded Daemon’s dreams and the shot of him breaking down after the second dream was really well done. Having Seasmoke being lonely and picking his old rider's half-brother kinda works. We’re on the brink of a major battle and things are falling into place for an exciting ending. Let me know what you think.

She smacked the absolute shit out of that guy who was trying to say “I told you so” for the thousandth time, and I probably watched that smack 5 times because I loved it so much. 😂

You're the BEST, Pete. The absolute best. I wish you would do more shows!

You're very quick to publish, and surprisingly thorough and perceptive with that in mind.

I think the scene where Seasmoke was "crying" over the ocean and Mysaria said "Maybe he's lonely" was SeaSmoke mourning the death of Laenor. He died. There's no other explanation. Which is why Seasmoke suddenly started creeping on her next boo.

I know it got a little repetitive the last episodes with Daemon's story, but this made it feel like it was worth the wait. If he's going to have a believable character arc, it makes sense for us to feel how long and unsettling his time away really has been. If it was just touched on and implied that he was going through so much for so long, I don't think his (possible) growth/change would be as convincing. This was a great episode all around!

If you watch the behind the scenes stuff at the end of the episode and the episode of the House that Dragons Built that goes with this episode of HotD, you would see that they indeed actually brought Paddy back. And he’s not just saying the same exact lines as before, there are subtle differences that convey more about Daemon’s psyche/are the result of Alys’ manipulation of him.

Same words delivered differently. They did bring Paddy back and it was brilliant

In the original throne room scene in season one, Viserys is considerably more angry with Daemon. In this scene, he's more saddened by his brother's acts of betrayal. I think that's because Daemon is framing the moment through his own feelings of guilt etc.

Paddy did go in to film. This time, we witness the event through Daemon’s mind.

Also, if you compared Daemon's "visions" of the events in this episode and what actually happened in Season 1, they were very different, even if the king said the same words. In this episode, Viserys was quite emotional but in a mopey kind of way, whereas in reality, he was outraged. The "king for a day?" line for example was shouted, not said calmly. The scene was warmly lit in S01; in Daemon's, it was cold and depressing. And so many others.

This could mean Daemon was not only guilty for hurting his brother and running away from the consequences, but also abandoning him when his brother needed support the most—the death of Viserys' wife and child.

You said Otto was Aemond’s uncle. He’s actually his grandfather. Gwayne is Aegon, Aemond, Helaena and Daeron’s uncle on their maternal side and Daemon is their paternal uncle. Also, Ulf is their paternal uncle, supposedly.

Seasmoke and Drogon look exactly the same.

And this is why book shows and movies should NOT follow the books exactly so people can be suprised!

Paddy Considine definitely came back for this. If you want this scene with the original scene, the line delivery is totally different.

Rhaenyra is the worst CEO of Westeros history! It's one misfire after another. And now HR pretty much can come for her blood, since she's having an affair with an employee that we all know it's not gonna end well. Worst case scenario Mysaria is about to get a hefty settlement package. She and Larys are the ones playing the GoT, the rest is just pawns...

I love that lady Jane is played by mother and addom is played by father from raised by wolves in an IP with one of its main families being represented by a wolf.
