Democratic National Convention to open with Biden tribute, pivot to Harris as protests form outside

The Democratic National Convention is opening Monday with a tribute to President Joe Biden and a pivot to the party’s new standard bearer, Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced him at the top of the ticket and has reversed the party’s fortunes in polling against former President Donald Trump.

It will be a full-circle moment for Democrats as Biden will close the night with a speech formally passing the torch to his vice president. It’s a sharp reversal from where the party stood a month ago during the Republican convention when the race was trending toward Trump after he survived an assassination attempt.

The theme for Monday night is “For the People,” where the president and first lady Jill Biden are scheduled to speak. Much of the night is expected to focus on honoring Biden and his accomplishments in a decades-long career in Washington that culminated in his one term as president. Several speakers slated to make an appearance Monday are close Biden allies like South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn and Delaware Sen. Chris Coons.

cut nonproductive govt programs
And we moved away from everyone of those points.
