I will always prefer mechanical systems to electronic ones because the only thing you need to replace on a mechanical system is the shift cable from time to time if you dont break anything.

On electronic shifting, all electrical components fail after a certain period even if you don’t break anything.

Well it’s all about complexity. The more moving parts there are, the more opportunity there is for failure. The quality of each individual part matters too. Some products (like appliances) may cheap out on those critical parts, but I don’t get the impression shimano products are built that way.

This means nothing. How many cycles are on the system? Thats the question. It could be essentially new because it's barely been used. Plus why risk having a battery die on you during a ride?
