2019 SsangYong Korando Review and Road Test

The New Korando from SsangYong - available in a range of trims, engines and gearboxes. There's even a 4 wheel drive version.

The model we have here is the Pioneer - very well kitted out, powered by a 1.6 turbo diesel engine, coupled with a 6 speed automatic gearbox. This trim comes with full size spare wheel.

Hi Thanks for the reviews, just wondering if you have driven the 1.5 petrol model and if so did you prefer the korando or the mg hs. Which would you buy ?

Great review! At the risk of sounding cynical, if this was badged as a VW (or Skoda) many of those who deride it and wouldn't consider it would wax lyrical and be all over it. Ssangyong still seem to suffer from a reputation they picked up in the late 90's and early 00's but nowadays they make well engineered and neatly styled cars offering a lot for not that much money. I think there is a parallel with MG in that the only real barrier to the cars is badge snobbery and the UK market obsession with expensive German cars. If people just looked at cars as cars these would be much more popular.

How fast does it need to get to 60mph/100kmh? 1.5 Petrol automatic?

The strength of the steel sheet panels used in tivoli is very weak
It got dings very easily
Hope the korando is much rugged

Buying this car was and is the biggest mistake of my life.... fuel consumption is very poor on a 1.6 diesel. If anyone is thinking about buying this car should think 10 times before buying it. A full tank of fuel which is about £45, gets you up to 105 miles in town. Very poor fuel consumption. Don't get fooled by this fancy video.
