German elections: Angela Merkel wins fourth term as far-right AfD surges

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has won a fourth term in office, according to exit polls.

But her party has seen the worst result in her 12 years in power.

The CDU will still dominate parliament, though its current coalition partner, the social democratic SPD, will go into opposition after historic losses.

For the first time, the nationalist AfD party will enter the Bundestag, as support for the far-right surged.

Al Jazeera's Dominic Kane reports from Berlin.
