Was the PSPgo the ORIGINAL Switch?

YEAH YEAH YEAH THE SEGA NOMAD. I know. I KNOW!

The PSPgo had a rare dock system which -- on top of being used for charging the console -- could also output the video signal to a TV.

It also had bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to pair a DualShock 3 controller to the handheld and thus effectively achieve what it'd take Nintendo another 8 years to come up with -- a portable/home console hybrid.

But what's the experience LIKE, anyway?

You can hold the Brightness button in order to "Switch". No need to go to settings.

Fortunately, PSP Custom Firmware fixes the issue of getting your physical back catalog of PSP games on the PSP Go. Using a 1000, 2000 or 3000 model with custom firmware, you can make an ISO backup of your UMD games and then copy that ISO to the PSP Go. It also worked for a Vita running Adrenaline.

Actually you can long press the screen brightness button to switch the video output signal. It is convenient enough😆

There's nothing wrong with your PSPgo dock not charging via the proprietary port, mine's the same. I got it, the component cable, and the PSPgo itself for really cheap when a Sony store was shutting down and everything was on clearance. The PSPgo was $65 brand new, and I think the other two items were less than $5 each.

To be fair, my Aunt keeps an original Gameboy in a basket of magazines on the toilet tank, been there for close to 25 years with no water damage. There's a copy of Super Mario Land in the cartridge slot.

I wonder what would have happened if the Go was held back a year or so and slightly upgraded and treated as a new console, similar to the "New 3ds" line. Or at the very least if the dock was advertised more, and if multiple controllers could have been connected to allow PS1 multiplayer. Like, it might be easy to say these things in hindsight, but why is it that consoles always seem to have incomplete features?

I bought my dock still in package for 10 dollars at the flea market maybe 8 years ago. I wish I never opened it. I got my PSP GO for around 20 dollars from Value Village maybe 9 years ago.

The TurboExpress is the OG switch, it predates the nomad by 5yrs or so. though a little different with the ability to play the console games on the go, but not able to connect to a tv directly

There's actually a second model of the dock, using the same model number oddly enough, that came with the cables. And it used different cables entirely.
It used a standard mini USB cable, and 2 headphone ports for AV out. 1 was the RCA/composite+audio, 1 was the 3 component video signals.
I paid $6 for mine. I wish I bought multiple...

Oooh, you forgot to mention that you can also play your digital (or “otherwise acquired” 😁) PlayStation games on the PSPgo through the television using the DualShock3. The go happens to scale PlayStation games rather nicely for play on the TV. My Life in Gaming considers it a very viable option for getting the best picture to play PlayStation games.
