I mean the symptoms of CWD in humans would probably be very similar to mad cow disease—brain dysfunction that gets worse and worse until you slip into a coma. Framing it like it’ll cause a zombie apocalypse is a little silly since in deer it will eventually lead to their death and doesn’t make them crazy or cannibalistic. I’ve seen deer with it and they just look really sick.

The issue isn't the prion "jumping" to us. It's the apocalyptic scenario of massive accumulation of the protein in the environment and our food chain that can cause widespread CJD in the majority of the human population

My second cousin died from eating a CWDeer. That was almost 11 years ago. It was really scary to just watch him… fade away. On an unrelated note, Prion Disease (i think that’s what it’s called) is essentially like CWD. It’s caused when a protein in your brain is built in a weird way so that the amino acids want to make everything else exactly like itself. Now, this protein is bad for you. It eventually makes all the proteins in your body that kind of protein and you die. No cure. Little warning. It could happen at any time: but protein malfunction is so impossibly rare that nobody should ever have to worry about it.

Tbf humans already have Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, so CWD wouldn’t be something we haven’t dealt with before, just more of the fact that CWD is crossing species in that scenario
