Portable & Affordable Folding Work Table for Small Spaces

I needed a small table to use as a drying rack or a table to hold tools while working in the shop. I came up with this folding table so I can store it out of the way when not in use.

"As long as it's close, it's fine"! My kind of build 🤣

This would be a great breakdown desk. Good for people who had to work from home occasionally but don't want a permanent setup or students going away to school. Mobile furniture is great. Put some hardwood edging and it would look great.

Great idea Matt! I’m always looking for another horizontal surface to through my stuff on! I love when you said “You’re not making a clock!” Definitely a good reminder the we don’t need to strive for absolute perfection, just for things to work and look good. Thanks for sharing!

Great idea, Matt...and my kind of build video. I don't need to see every cut, or watch you stuff a chamfer bit in your router. I like how you just give us the basics and let us flesh it out.

I agree that it is...well, a portable flat spot. Wouldn't put my planer on it, but might use it to keep my bench clear as I work. Good stuff, man!

Cool. Workshop lunch table! More builds please. This is doable for me as a beginner's beginner.

Love this idea! I don’t think it’ll work for what I’m looking for, but actually might be useful in the house, for projects for my kids. Thanks, Matt!

Hey, nice build. More importantly, thanks for making more build videos. I appreciate it. looking forward to the next one. I typically through a large scrap of plywood on a trash can when I need a spare surface. This is way better and way more convenient

I built one of these 2 years ago for camping, it's great for my Blackstone.

Way neat! Always good to have around an additional tablespace around. Even just for to put tools upon while really in the need to use all of the solid work tablespace. Best is that it takes way little space when put away - and that it is light. No matter that them hinges might make the table seem a bit shaky - since not all floors are that flat either. I bet it may sit/stand better allaround like this when it gets a bit of play in the build.

Love it. I have a small shop and am about to rebuild a miter saw station. I was thinking about using part of it as a desk, but didn’t want to give up the storage space. This is a great solution.

Yup. Can't have enough utility tables, I always say. And when you have absolutely no space, like I do, folding down to next to nothing is a major plus. Simple construction puts it over the top! Win!

An upgrade would be to drill two large holes in the top near the back edge, connect them and round over the edges. Makes a carry/storage handle.

Great idea! For easier to carry it and move I would route a small whole on the center of the back to give a quick and easy handle. What I love about this project it's useful, simple and cheap. And like you hinted towards the end of the video, easy to customize for each individuals requirements.

Now for the matching stool. Mr Outlaw knows this one. Other side. I think a couple of “dowels” or metal stock could be easy to level up this. Maybe a little less easy of up and down folding but way more stable for weight and stability. Just an idea for the critics. Awesome job sir.

It’s a great idea. I still do the saw horses and sheet material when I need additional table space, but more stability would be nice. Cheers

Matt that’s a cool idea. I work in a half garage shop with all the big tools and I barely have enough room to work most days. But I can’t tell you how many times I needed a small bench just like this. As a matter of fact, last night I had to paint some trim I made. Long piece was only 28” and most were about 18” (hallway). I had to clear so much stuff off my dedicated work bench to make room, heck it probably took me longer to do that than the actual painting. The only thing I have to consider is price. The way wood is priced these days, a lot of the time you can buy something that works for the same price or less. Time is a factor to me so that matters. Thanks again for the video.

Definitely a good idea. I may make this and make it bigger as a finishing table when I need it
