Basically, an RG Cube with a repositioned d-pad and the h700 SOC, this 1:1 ergonomic hunk of plastic is poised to knock the RGB30 out of the way and become your new budget 1:1 device.

I actually am excited for this one. I haven't bought an h700 device yet, but this will be the one, I think. I'm pretty happy with my rp4 pro, but I've been wanting to get something for my ma and because of the screen on this one, it'll make for a phenomenal vertical arcade machine. (Pacman, galaga, etc. those are the games she loves)

I love the jokes about the monthly (sometimes bi-weekly) Anbernic releases, but I agree with you that it's great that we get so many options in terms of form factor, screen size, etc. My main problem with so many releases is that I usually want all of them and Anbernic is about to bankrupt me. 🤣

Zu is the Anbernic of reviewers; he's always releasing new things to consume and they're always worthwhile. This was another worthwhile review about what appears to be another worthwhile Anbernic handheld. I like the CubeXX and I'm happy that it exists.

I don't really understand why the CubeXX is getting hate from some folks. It fills a niche for people who can't afford the OG Cube or Unicorn; but, don't want to buy uncomfortable and half-baked goods from Powkiddy or Boyhom. That's a good thing! At its sub-$70 pricetag you could say that the CubeXX is a... square deal.

IRT the software: Anbernic offers two types of software updates for their XX handhelds; a 64GB version that's fully equipped (and since the whole 64-bit Portmaster kerfuffle has been hidden - you have to email customer service to get the link) as well as a 16GB OS that doesn't have ROMs and BIOS files. Until now the 16GB OS has only been available as a download from Anbernic's website. This is really weird seeing it included on a physical card with a shipped handheld.

The only annoying thing about the 16GB OS, besides having to source mundane things yourself, is that it's next to impossible to manually expand the ROMs partition for a one card setup using only one big memory card. It doesn't expand automatically to fit like ArkOS either. If you install it on a memory card bigger than 16GB then that extra space is simply wasted, so you have to use a two card setup with it. I'm curious to know if the OS found in the CubeXX has been reworked to fit bigger cards because the card in Zu's review unit is a 32GB card, or if their use of a 32GB card was simply an expedient choice based on availability.

I always go back to my rg cube even tho I have the Odin 2. So cozy. Glad others can enjoy it for lower systems at a lower price I love this thing for N64 and GBA in particular

Great review, and I definitely agree on your point about having options. I feel like this announcement has been met with so much backlash from people upset about "another" H700 device, but as someone whose preferred device is my RGB30 but wishes it had a different build quality (and for whom the Cube was too pricey), this has a good chance to check a lot of boxes for me. More choices is always a plus for the consumer!

Good video man. Sad to hear that the sticks are not the same as the Rg406V, but i guess it is a budget handheld. Front end looks pretty good. Agree with you on the variety aswell, We see the same thing in the cell phone industry. You have a phobne for every like and dislike out there and it works for that industry.
