Hello there and welcome to the Sounds American 4th of July special!

The 4th of July, or Independence Day, is a big national holiday in the United States.
On this day in 1776, thirteen British colonies declared their independence from England. This was the beginning of the US.
Several decades later, by 1836, there were 25 states in the USA.
Since then, the number of the states has increased to 50.

Do you know how to correctly pronounce the names of all 50 states?
That's what we'll practice in this video.
You can do this while getting ready for a barbecue with your friends.

[Pronunciation exercise]
This is how it works.

You got 49 of 50 correct. I'm 66 years old and have lived in the United States my whole life. I have never heard anyone pronounce Colorado the way you did. I have been to Colorado and nobody I ever met there pronounced it the way you did.

I'm Briton and I was for some reason wondering if I could remember the states of the US and I started naming them one by one out loud and came a US friend and said: "You're pronouncing Arkansas wrong" and I asked her how to pronounce it and tried to pronounce it like her and I just couldn't 😂😂😂.
