Israeli evacuation orders of Khan Yunis forcing displaced Palestinians to flee once again

On Saturday, new Israeli evacuation orders of Khan Yunis, a previously designated humanitarian zone, forced displaced Palestinians sheltering in the area to flee once again, pressured by warnings of new Israeli raids on the area.

In the evacuation announcement, the Israeli military said Khan Yunis had become “dangerous” due to “acts of terrorism and firing of anti-aircraft missiles.” Last week, increased Israeli raids on Khan Yunis killed scores and forced the displacement of 180,000 Palestinians in four days, following warnings by the Israeli military that it would “forcefully operate” in the area.

“We are tired of being displaced from one region to another.” Ahmad Al Aryan, a displaced Palestinians sheltering in Khan Yunis, expressed the helplessness experienced by the Palestinians sheltering in the area. Al Aryan challenged the Israeli claims by saying: “No missiles are fired from the area” and adding that “these are residential areas.”

Among the Palestinians fleeing Khan Yunis is a man who has been displaced 5 times along with his wife and children, he described having been forced to leave behind their tent and all their belongings 3 out of the 5 times they were displaced.

Palestinians in Khan Yunis were ordered by Israel to evacuate to al-Mawasi where at least 3 people, including children, were killed in an Israeli attack on Sunday. Al-Mawasi was described by Rami Abu Namoos as a “densely populated” one where displaced Palestinians are forced to set up tents on the roads and in the graveyards.

Imagine eleven months of displacement under frequent bombardment, with no sanitation, very little food, limited water of dubious or downright BAD quality; moving from one safe zone to another while all familiar landmarks and familial organization disintegrate around you. We must remember that this has been pretty much what Israel has been doing to the Palestinians for over 76 years. Gaza has been an open air prison for 17 years. As an American, I despise my imperialistic government for supporting this. Let's hope that those who've been martyred didn't die in vain. And, that Palestine will rise out of the rubble like the phoenix from the river to the sea.
