Mercury Mountaineer Meenan Transmission

This video was taken of a 5R55W transmission removed from a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. This vehicle came in with gear ratio code 733 also a solenoid code. Once disassembly we saw that the transmission had been rebuilt in the past. Some of the components that were used during rebuild process may have been contributing factors to the malfunctions. The aftermarket forward clutch pistons are prone for problems due to insufficient material thickness. This causes hydraulic deflection when the component is applied which subsequently causes slippages and or delayed engagements. In addition the Servo failure was an aftermarket Servo. The shaft on these aftermarket servos are not sufficient and are prone for breaking at the thinnest point. Ford servos shafts are made of better material and do not fail like the aftermarket servos.
