I use Video with family. It helps me when I see my mom and see how she is taking care of herself and if I need to help more. I also know that in the company meetings we actually see people not paying atention. I can understand your view Lew but I know for me it helps from time to time. Now some people I would never video with.

I would totally upgrade to these new HomePods as long as it’s compatible with my smart home hardware — it’s gotta be able to do everything my Alexa can do and more. There are WAY too many security issues and limitations with Alexa. For instance, why do my medical aides have access to my Alexa’s at all? They have facial recognition and supposed voice ID turned on, yet my medical aide routinely plays Spanish music that messes up my Amazon Music suggestions, can access my security cameras, and can pretty much access all my other routines, notifications, calendar, and other private information. That means I can’t use those features or have to be prepared that someone else might try to access them. The only thing I can control is the ability to turn of purchases and shut off the web browser — but why should I have to turn it off entirely if I might want to use that feature?! Amazon’s tech support had a brilliant” solution: just change the wake word! Problem is, when other people own these Alexa devices, they also know all the wake word possibilities and just try them all until they work — or they can just use the screen without a wake word! Where’s the password options or the ability to limit controls and features to other people?!

Yeah, an Apple version would be done right. It would maintain my privacy and security while still making it possible for me to let ASSIGNED people and guests to use basic features and/or specific apps as I please. And front/rear cameras would also be a very welcome addition just to make using calls, apps, taking photos/videos around my home if I have visitors so I can be more engaged with them and not have to stop to capture everything, and even for some security features much easier when I can’t use my phone — like while giving my service dog a bath.

I wouldn’t use this new HomePod INSTEAD as my phone, though, as Will was asking about. I’d use this type of HomePod as a complement to COMPLEMENT it.

I think Apple would have to make sure they have models that are much more affordable to draw in more customers who may only want a premium version in a single room or may not be able to afford a high end one. They need one with most/all the important features and specs that won’t break the bank. Like I have an Alexa Echo only in my bedroom and Dots in every other room due to the above aforementioned security and privacy issues and because I don’t really need the large screen in every room. I would love differently spec’ed versions of this new HomePod with smaller screens (or the current form factor with virtually no screen or no screen at all), slightly lower res camera — less premium speakers in some rooms while having a premium set in other rooms where I would want to enjoy Dolby Atmos, and the best of the best specs. If they think of HomePod as an iPhone complement, I’d totally be on board. I never got a HomePod before because it was missing crucial features and I didn’t see the point. This new version would get me on board in a heartbeat.

THANK YOU! I feel the same way about VR. I have no need to put some giants thing on my face after I paid for LASIK. I got rid of glasses. I don’t want to replace them for augmented anything. WHen I have the phone I want the phone. I don’t want Mario jumping off my sofa. I don’t want a virtual woman. I want to touch a real woman. I want human interaction. I enjoy real life too. That’s why I don’t care that much for FaceTime as an adult. I don’t care for VR. I like going outside.
