Order of Multiple Adjectives

Order of Multiple Adjectives

Adjective: a word that describes a noun (person, place or thing).

There's a rule. The rule is that multiple adjectives are always ranked accordingly: opinion, size, age, shape, colour, origin, material, purpose.

OPINION
eg: unusual, silly, pretty

SIZE
eg: tiny, tall, big

AGE
eg: young, old

SHAPE
eg: square, round, flat

COLOUR
eg: red, black, blue

ORIGIN
eg: American, Dutch, Kiwi

MATERIAL
eg: plastic, timber, metal

PURPOSE
eg: cooking, draining
