Wow I completely misunderstood the meaning of boilerplate code! I'm new to software engineering and working in a team but not new to programming. I've been programming for the past 25 years as a hobby and made fairly large projects that I never completed because I moved on to something else or a new programming language.

The first thing a colleague told me at my new software engineering job was that she hated boilerplate code, and my manager once said the same. And from the definitions I read online, it seemed to me that it meant custom code that is written just for a specific task, rather than using existing libraries that perform the same task better. Given that the former is what I love the most about progamming because it is creative, I thought well there goes my passion, since it seemed to be bad practise.

I'm glad I watched this video so I could understand it meant the opposite of what I thought.
