Designing DEAD gODS - Vampire Penthouse

In his penthouse at the top of his colossal temple, a Watcher steps away from his party to make a sacrifice. I'm using illustrations like this to test out what I've learned, and to try to establish tone.

This world is so wonderful and horrifying all at once. The idea that giving humanity longer lifespans ultimately just gave us more time for things to go wrong. For when man has the power to do anything, then anything he will do.

There's something far more terrible about human sacrifice when each human life can span hundreds of years. So much more time to know others, or to learn skills. Lifetimes worth of memory and experience in someone who can still be considered young, tossed over the edge. This is spectacular.

I think what this image is missing is human interaction, all the figures are by themselves, would imagine in scene like this in a world so evil like this there would be more human interaction of self indulgence and debauchery, within artistic reason of course.

Such like the old movies and shows of Greek and Roman men and women on each other's laps eating, laughing, in Ecstasy doing whatever local or exotic drugs they could get their hands on.

I don't know of any of the prices names but I know I've seen classical art that kinda shows this "evil of man" very well. Might be good to draw some inspiration from them, because honestly this image overall feels pretty tame. Aside from the human sacrifice

I think you could include a planetary ring arcing across the sky in your landscapes. Here me out. Genesis says there were waters below the heavens (sky) and waters above. The thick atmosphere looks great. The most visually spectacular interpretation could be that the waters were also orbiting the earth in the form of a ring like Saturn. From the earth it might look like a white or light blue band, with the shadow of the earth cutting through at certain times of day.

I'm loving your work and can't wait to follow it to the end.

I love all these giants and vampires and dragons, but I think there should be more human baddies like a cult of Cain or something. The world fell because of mankind's sin. I think it could also add an air of suspicion to the Ship-right, as he can't tell who to trust, and who will sell him out or sacrifice him if it means they benefit.

I really loved the original vampires you did in your previous vampire video. I think in the end, it’s a cool illustration but nothing tells me I’m looking at vampires, you can easily just say it’s a random sacrifice.

the original outfits would have helped make the connections since you have some reference already designed for it and the architecture would also help a lot to tell the story that we’re looking at vampires with some type of connection to them. Love the work, can’t wait to see the next ones

In terms of fashion, I highly suggest looking at some Romani fashion. They often manage to look elegant and extravagant, but without looking too modern. There already is some (likely unintentionally or due to overlap with other cultures). I've been using a modified version for my vampires (called mullo), which are generally based on a mix of Romani folklore and Eastern European pre-Christian mythology. I also think using color to denote different groups could be helpful. Like rn both the shipwright and the vampires were dress in blue, perhaps a hint of blood red (and maybe even explicit dying their clothes in human blood) could build an atmosphere an signal allegances!

I kinda like the anachronism of the first coat you put on the watcher. I feel like it underscores the watchers' role as bringers of advanced (dare I say, anachronistic?) technology to humanity.
