The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin is a book that I've been waiting to read for quite some time and I am so excited to bring this no spoiler review of The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin. The Fifth Season is book one in a trilogy named The Broken Earth by N.K. Jemisin and it even stands out on it's own as a great book. I loved the trilogy but The Fifth Season shined the brightest out of all the Broken Earth trilogy for me. The Fifth Season is one of the best book i've read all year and N.K. Jemisin is now a must buy author for me!

Excellent review, Jimmy! The Broken Earth Trilogy is among my top five fantasy stories of all time. Jemisin masterfully incorporates themes of oppression and resilience into the three books. I actually like each succeeding book a little more than the previous one. I still remember having to pick my jaw off the floor after finishing book three.

This review feels like I got a Christmas present early! Fantastic review - you did an amazing job summarizing the beginning of this amazing story. Jamison has a gift for delivering a huge emotional impact with one simple sentence. I love the magic system - Earth magic, nature - seems so logical for a magic system and is my favorite. I know a while back all of her work has been sold as far as movie/tv rights - so some film adaptations are on the way! Absolutely agree on this story’s uniqueness.

Just finished the whole trilogy a few days ago. Fantastic stuff! Didn't crack my personal all time favorite series list, but this is one I will be thinking of for a while. I will read more of the author's work in the future

No idea when I'll get to these, 2022, Fantasy wise, will largely be me prioritising finishing/caught up on Malazan BoTF and Dresden Files after which I'll be taking a hiatus from Fantasty for a bit but maybe I'll make this a priority post hiatus.

"The Fifth Season" is a beloved book for me as well. Because I was not familiar with SF elements, the other two books in "The Broken Earth" felt more challenging for me. I am hoping The Broken Binding will do them a SE for their subscription so I can read them again, this time in the original language.

You did such a great job describing your experience with this book. I always struggle with recommending it to people because it's so out there in every way, from the story structure to the plot to the second person perspective. Kind of like recommending an 'artsy' film: it's great but not what most people expect so not everyone will vibe with it. But I agree it's a book that provokes great discussions! The first book was definitely my favorite just because some of the revelations made my jaw drop but I also really enjoyed the end of the entire trilogy.
