The original version of Layla was released in 1971 as part of the album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominos. It is co-written by Jim Gordon.

Dm pentatonic, although it would probably sound closer if you used the Dm blues scale (basically a minor pentatonic scale with an added flat five, as well as the natural five).
