In this video we listen to what could be GREATEST SHRED GUITAR SOLO. Of course I'm talking about LEAD LORD Jason Becker....the Stephen Hawking of guitar. Jason teamed up with Lord Marty Friedman of Megadeth at age 16 to form the band Cacophony. It was the start of a brilliant but short career. Many said Jason was on track to be the Mozart when he contracted a deadly disease known as ALS. This robbed Jason of his ability to play guitar and confined him to a wheel chair. In this video we'll listen to one of his greatest compositions, "Altitudes" from the Perpetual Burn album.

I like the video where Jason is shredding and playing with a yo-yo at the same time! I remember when he got the David Lee Roth gig. That's when he got sick. He had to finish the album using the lowest gage string he could find because he didn't have the strength to do bends. It's heartbreaking what happened to him.

Truly great he was. And not just because of the disease and now we are over praising him... it's really not that at all. He was legitimately that good. Certainly up in the realms of Steve Vai and Martin Freeman. The Ultra elite. The top 1%. The best of the best

Becker at the age of 16 was better than most great guitarists get after 40 - 50 year careers. The only person I can think of that comes close is Jason Richardson but even then becker was way younger

I dunno...first time I've heard it and noooo...I cannot play like this, however my ear, while admiring the absolute stunning masterpiece of skill by his playing...my ear wanted something at some point to take me in a completely different direction. Some kind of, I don't know, at least in the middle. Can't take anything from him however, excellent!

'Altitudes' is Jason's more mellow shred. Jason's greatest "shred" solo is entire 2nd half of 'Mabel's Fatal Fable'.
