An ever-increasing body of research shows that self-compassion is essential to our emotional health. Self-compassion has the power to free us from the critical thoughts and harsh self-judgments that often cause us to suffer or get stuck.

When you treat others with compassion, you experience a deep sense of connection and love. It just flows so freely from your heart.

Dr. Kristin Neff is a pioneer in the field of self-compassion research, conducting the first empirical studies on self-compassion nearly 20 years ago. In addition to writing numerous academic articles and book chapters on the topic, she is author of the book Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself.

Sounds True was founded in 1985 by Tami Simon with a clear mission: to disseminate spiritual wisdom. Since starting out as a project with one woman and her tape recorder, we have grown into a multimedia publishing company with more than 80 employees, a library of more than 1500 titles featuring some of the leading teachers and visionaries of our time, and an ever-expanding family of customers from across the world. In more than three decades of growth, change, and evolution, Sounds True has maintained its focus on its overriding purpose, as summed up in our Mission Statement.

I appreciated this meditation. I have to say I wasn’t prepared for it to end as it did. I would have genuinely appreciated a final closing that supported the listener on how to work with the remaining feelings of anger as they arise. That said, I appreciated a great deal the phrase “may I begin to forgive this person for the harm they have caused me wittingly or unwittingly”. And for reviewing the causes and conditions that may have contributed to the person’s behaviour. It doesn’t excuse the behaviour but puts it into a context and that often helps the forgiveness process for me. And indeed - it is a process, isn’t it? 🙏😊

My eyes were closed and it ended SUPER suddenly (went to the next vid) and my eyes shot open in confusion lolol. Agree that the way it’s edited makes the ending abrupt! I normally use Dr. Neff’s website and I’m trying to get back into all her guided meditations! I love how she said it’s okay if anger or anything else comes up for you.

Thank you! Very helpful. I should make time to dedicate everyday a little bit of time to purify my mind of the unwholesome and develop the wholesome.

It is good but sometimes better to avenge

Abuse is unforgivable. Forgive yourself maybe, but letting the abuser off the hook? That'll just open yourself to more abuse. Better learn how to build healthy communities by becoming a leader, change the culture through one's example than forgive abusers and thus perpetuating the cycle.

I was looking for ways to have compassion for me not forgiveness for my abusers. Disappointed
